Transitioning from university to my first marketing role was a big milestone for me. Especially with it being in the world of tech which was new to me! However, I’ve now been in my marketing role at Kabeelah for 4 months. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for me to put skills and knowledge acquired while studying, into practice.

University provided me with a wealth of knowledge in different theories, areas and processes within marketing. It also taught me business management skills which i can use everyday. I didn’t realize how easily these skills combined would have assisted me in transitioning through this change.

I’m a firm believer in ‘right place, right time’ and ‘everything happens for a reason’. Even more so now as the opportunity for my current position arose on my final exam day at university! I was keen to find out more. Before I knew it, it was official, and the job was mine before I even graduated! I was excited, but nervous given I was on a different path in my almost 5-year career in retail. However, my passion was in marketing so I had to say yes, and change is good! My nerves were quickly put at ease when I met my new team who were very welcoming and supportive!

In terms of entering the world of Tech, I was worried as there were lots to learn and so many acronyms that I had NEVER heard of before, therefore I started a glossary, which 4 months later I still must refer to! But I can’t complain, it keeps me busy. Tech is fast paced, and it changes every day, that’s what makes my job interesting as I must stay up to date on the latest trends and technologies to stay ahead of the curve.

I faced several challenges, from understanding complex technology products and services as well as aligning marketing strategies with business goals, especially when I’m still getting to grips with the industry. However, each challenge was a learning opportunity. To further build my skills and confidence, I have completed multiple online training courses which have allowed me to contribute more to my team. Additionally, I have lots of autonomy as I can contribute any ideas I have. Im also trusted to run campaigns and manage events which is an even better way to push myself.

To Summarise my marketing in tech journey so far

In Summary, I am very happy with where I have landed since leaving University. Its allowed me to practice what I have previously learnt, but its also taught me the importance of continuous learning and teamwork.

If you are someone who loves a challenge, and a fast-paced working environment, I would recommend getting into the tech industry. Every day is different!
